Social coverage is the bread and butter of esports, in this project I tackled both finding a fresh approach to one of the most historical brands in esports and making the process of actually publishing graphics much easier
Social coverage is the bread and butter of any esports graphic designer, it’s generally where we get started and something that doesn’t really ever disappear.
In order to lighten the lift on our graphics team we made an effort to create more versatile set of templates that were easily editable by the social team without the need for graphics to assist.
Although visually stunning in my opinion the main aim for this set of graphics was to explore the ability for leveraging Figma to lighten the overall workload of the graphics team upon the completion of the initial graphics, essentially creating something we could hand to practically anyone that could operate a spreadsheet with some confidence.
This was incredibly successful with graphics only needing to add in extra photography halfway in the season because we received more photography of the players.
The visual direction for this set of graphics was very much aimed at leaning into the identity of being a North American team, our jersey pattern served as a great base for us to leverage and with some glass / reflective star renders we had pretty much everything needed to make a compelling set of visuals.
Even when deviating from our general purpose color palette the graphics were undeniably liquid and were very capable of catching the eyes of fans. We did explore some alternate palettes & treatments for the graphics but determined that the lighter & softer palette fit the tonality of the team better.
The main technical thing leveraged here was Figma variables & components which with appropriate amounts of setup can enable graphics that are fully edited outside of the canvas, with a selection of pre-framed photo’s, the layers already correctly cropped and positioned and the text already correctly adjusting to the amount of datasets provided.
The effect of having graphics that are this easily edited means that we’re cutting an entire line of communication for creating social media posts enabling us to be more connected to moments, post faster & with less iterations of quality control required, that work was all done in advance of the season starting.
